Lost:
Reflections on a Poem of Counsel (CD)

Maria Parisen

$7.95 audio CD
978-0-8356-8364-7

"Lost" is a window into Native American wisdom, translated by the poet David Wagoner. Perhaps, it is advice to youth who are beginning forays into the forest alone. But the poem speaks also to a universal human experience, a feeling of disorientation in a wilderness of sensations, impressions, desires, and demands. Before we discover our place in the world, our true nature and purpose in a living cosmos, we are truly lost. The counsel of the elders is simple: stand still in the forest, listen, then ask permission to know and be known. Together, we consider this wise counsel and meditate on finding our way. This program was recorded at the 124th annual summer convention of the Theosophical Society in America. 2010. 42 minutes.

Maria Parisen, a member of the Theosophical Society since 1969, has served on the Board of Directors for the T.S. in America, the Detroit Lodge, the Krotona Institute of Theosophy, and the Theosophical Order of Service. She has lectured and guided interactive programs for the T.S. throughout the United States and internationally. Currently Maria, and her husband Jon, are part of the Krotona Institute’s resident staff.
