This White Lotus Day program commemorates the passing of Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, the principal co-founder of the Theosophical Society. One of the main concepts in the Theosophical philosophy is the idea of cyclicity. Cultures, societies, and individuals all experience transitional periods in which the older established ways of thinking and doing give way to new modes of thought and behavior. Some common examples that are experienced at the individual level are the transition from youth to adulthood, or from middle age to old age, getting married, the loss of a loved one, and changes in one’s career. Major shifts can cause us to experience discomfort, pain, grief, uncertainty, feelings of vulnerability, and confusion. At the same time, these periods hold the potential for inner growth.
